WARNING: THE OLD SLAVE HOUSE IS CURRENTLY CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC
The Old Slave House is the last station still standing on America’s Reverse Underground Railroad.
THE SITE TODAY
AND IT’S FUTURE
After operating a museum for seventy years, the house and the property closed to the public on October 31, 1996. Since it has closed, the house has been visited only a few select times for academic proposes.
In 2000, the house passed from private ownership to the State of Illinois. The property does have, to this day, 24-hour security. And it is considered criminal trespassing if anyone attempts to visit the house.
For the future, it is this websites’ hope, that funding can be found to restore and reopen The Old Slave House to the public so it is not lost in the pages of history.
